This book is just a pleasure to read because it comes from two persons who lived to their summits of career on opera stages. Caruso describes many technical details for opera voices which might give many professional singers good insights, whereas Dame Tetrazzini gives a lot of tipps how to care for body and voice to keep them in healthy condition. Both also talk about the discipline opera stars need to be magic on stage. My impression is that this book helps especially singers who are already on a good way to the opera stage, but not much those who try to improve their voices. The book is mostly biographic and written by experts, but the pedagogical aspect or some helpful exercises are mostly missing. I think that Lampertis book is better to answer the question how to improve one's voice. Nevertheless I enjoyed this historic description very much and I appreciate the hints from these charismatic singers of old times. This book really wad not helpful at all. It was filled with jargon and did not offer any practical advice.
The art of singing written in a clear way by two of the best artists ever. The correct way to use the voice and practical advices for facing and audience.
It is just a 'must read' historical reference for anyone who loves Opera or is involved in the Opera business.

Excellent book and a must read for all vocalists and anyone in vocal pedagogy
Great little snippets of advice. Nothing too revolutionary, but fun to have around as a reference for those rocky days where things don't feel totally right. Sometimes it's just a little quote from one of these great singers that remind you of something you've forgotten in your training.
If I could provide separate recommendations, I would give a "5" to the part by Louisa Tetrazzini, and give a "3" to the portion by Enrico Caruso.
Tetrassini provides a wealth of excellent advice and insight in the first portion of the book. Keeping in mind that the material comes from a foreign voice (Italian), and about a hundred years ago, so the English is awkward and dated, so it might be a challenge to read for some. However, she gets right into the proverbial "meat & potatoes" of the matter, and provides a huge amount of advice in a short space.
Caruso does a lot of talking, but not a whole lot is said. With my trusty highlighter, I did find a few statements worthy of note. But overall, his portion was likely included just to make this a book rather than a pamphlet. Even with that, the entire length is only 71 pages, and can be easily read in a single sitting.
